久しぶりの再会 Reunion With My Old Friend from Australia!

オーストリアの友達がザグレブまで遊びに来てくれてから1週間後、今度はオーストラリア・メルボルン大学大学院に留学していた時の友達が、旅仲間と一緒に遊びに来てくれました。お互いに違う分野を専攻していたのだけれど、少ない日本人留学生同士とっても仲良くしてもらっていました。

みんな1週間でザグレブ、プリトヴィッツェ、スプリットとドブロブニクを駆け足で周るスケジュール。そんなタイトなスケジュールの中、ザグレブを一緒に回ったりカフェやレストランでおしゃべりできたのは楽しかった♪

A week after my Austrian friend had visited me, my Japanese friend, whom I met when I studied at Melbourne University in Australia, visited me in Zagreb with her friends. We majored in different subjects, but we were one of small number of Japanese students there and we became good friends.

All of them planned to visit Zagreb, Plitvice Lakes,  Split and Dubrovnik in one week. But I was very happy to share some time with them in Zagreb walking around the city and chatting at cafes :)



実は彼女とは日本に戻ってしばらくして連絡が取れなくなっていたんですが、Facebookで彼女を発見！Facebookのおかげで5年ぶりにまたこうして会っておしゃべりすることができました☆

Soon after we both went back to Japan after finishing the university, we actually lost contact. But, I found her on Facebook and contacted her for the first time in 5 years! Thanks to Facebook, we could see each other again and have a very fun time together here in Zagreb :)




オーストリアの友達と一緒にプリトヴィッツェに行った一週間後、再びプリトヴィッツェです（笑）写真は「あれ、ここ通ったっけ???」と相談しているところです。

Again we went to Plitvice a week after I took my Austrian friend there :D I becoming a frequent visitor there... The photo was us discussing if we got lost or if we missed a "proper route" to get to the sites shown on their guidebook.





この時は一週間前と比べてかなり水量が減っていました。そのせいか、みんな「あれ、なんだか写真と違う・・・?!　もうちょっと滝があるはずなんだけれど…」と混乱していた様子。確かに右の写真を見てみるとちょっと寂しい感じ。日本のガイドブックは一番いい時期の一番いい写真を載せてるんじゃないかなぁ?　(^ ^;) とは言うものの、そういう自分も日本のガイドブック見るのは大好きです。

When I took my friends to Plitvice, the volume of water was quite low compared to a week ago. So, everyone was a bit confused and disappointed because they expected to see exactly the same view as shown on their guidebooks. Well, in fact, Japanese guidebooks are full of pictures (unlike Lonely Planet travel guides) and you may call them spoiler. So, Japanese tourists know how places, sites and buildings look like the best and they expect to see the same :S To be fair, I do enjoy seeing the beautiful pictures and I do love to read Japanese guidebooks (which make me feel as if I have been there), but because I have too many information before I actually visit, I feel less impressed, I think :S

9月の中旬でもまだまだたくさんの観光客がプリトヴィッツェを楽しんでいました。右は大滝の前にある岩の上に乗って取った写真。人がぜんぜんいないように見えますが、この岩の上に上るのにも順番待ちでした。順番と言っても、先に上ったもの勝ちっていう感じでしたけど…(^ ^;) 順番を待っていたらずっと岩の上には登れそうにもないので、岩の近くで待機→隙を見て上ってください。

Even in the middle of September, still many tourists enjoy Plitvice lakes. The right photo was taken in front of the Big Waterfall. It looks as if there were no one, but there were many people under this big rock in front of the Big Waterfall waiting for their turn to be on the top of the rock! We Japanese tend to be shy to cut into the queue and wait for their turn in patience. But, that rule only apply for Japanese and others don't follow it there, so I told my friends to just wait near the rock and climb up faster when they found a chance to do that :P I feel like I'm becoming "un-Japanese" :P

雪景色のプリトヴィツェ Plitvice in Snow

私たちがプリトヴィッツェに行った数日前に大雪が降っていて、風も強かったためプリトヴィツェに続く道路が閉鎖されていました。たまたま私たちがプリトヴィツェに行く日、気温も5℃で風もほとんどないということで行くことにしました。数日前にあんなに大雪だったんだから、プリトヴィツェに来る人もほとんどいないだろう、なんて思っていました。そうしたら、予想上に人がいてびっくり！ちょっと暖かくなったから見に行こう、という人がたくさんいました。

　プリトヴィツェにはエントランスが2か所あるんですが、冬の間はメインエントランスからプリトヴィツェに入った方がいいです。というのも、雪が降っている間、メインエントランスからプリトヴィツェ一番の見どころの大滝までの道しか雪が片づけられておらず、他のルートを周るのは困難だからです。ちなみに、雪が片づけられていると言っても、きれいに歩道整備されているわけではなく、まぁ、なんとか歩けるかな、くらいのレベル。途中、雪が氷のようになっていてものすごく滑りやすくなっている個所もありました。私は途中、仕方なくお尻で滑って移動していたくらい(>_<) ここにきて、フィンランド製の「スッベラネン」買っておけばよかった、と後悔。これ、ネーミングがものすごいツボにはまった・・・。でも持っている靴に簡単につけられて滑り止めになるなんて、ものすごい良いアイディア！今年はもう雪のシーズン終わっちゃったけど、来年購入をちょっと考えてみようかな・・・。


  雪の降っている時期にプリトヴィツェを訪れる場合は、足元に十分気を付けてください。日本と違って、柵がしっかり作られているわけでもないので一歩間違えると大けがをしかねません。まぁ、自然そのまま手つかずで残してあると言われればそうなんですが、日本の感覚で言うと安全対策してなくて大丈夫？！みたいな・・・(^ ^;)　

  ちなみに、冬の間湖が凍っていて渡し船が出ない分、入場料８０Knが半額になるみたいです。しかも、入口のチケット売り場は15：00まで。このエントランス、売り場の係りの人がいなくなったからと言ってゲートが閉じられるわけでもないので、安心してください。つまり、15：00以降に行くと、タダで入れちゃうんですね。でもすぐに日が沈んで真っ暗になるので気を付けてください。

　さてさて、雪景色のプリトヴィツェ！青々したあのプリトヴィツェとはずいぶん様子が違います。滝も凍っているんですが、それでも水が勢いよく流れていました。飛び散った水滴が積み重なって、いろいろな形の氷の芸術を作っていました。中には滝の周りをドーム状に氷が張っているのもあれば、カーテンのようになっているのもの。そして奇妙なキノコの形のものまで、自然の美しさに圧倒されました。

  大滝も、水が凍っていたので、滝の真下近くまで歩いていくことができました。夏場はそこまで行けないんですけどね。少し氷が解けた湖で、プリトヴィツェ本来の美しいエメラルド掛かったブルーも見ることができました。真っ白な雪とのコントラストがきれい。

A few days before I visited the Plitvice, it snowed heavily and the road to the Plitvice from Zagreb was closed due to very strong wind. But, fortunately, when I travelled there, the temperature increased to 5 degrees. So, the condition was good - the Plitvice in snow, but relatively warm temperature. Before I got there, I thought there would be few people, because of heavy snow in the past few weeks. But, I was wrong! There were many people already.

  The Plitvice in snow was amazingly beautiful. It looks completely different from summer. In summer, people enjoy walking around the lakes, which has very unique emerald green colour, and spray of waterfalls and the sound of the waterfalls.

  In winter, most of the lakes and waterfalls are frozen. Although, the water still flows while making dynamic sounds. As you will find on the photos, I saw many interesting "nature art". The spray of the waterfall made an ice domes, and through which water still flows. Other waterfall made ice curtains. I even found an ice mushroom near the big waterfall!

  Walking in the Plitivice in snow was actually very hard. Most of the passages were not completely cleaned. So, sometimes I had no choice but to slip on my bum to go down the steps, because the snow had half-melted and became icy... So, when you visit the Plitvice in winter, please be extra careful to walk.

  But, because the most of the passage was covered by the snow and the shallow lake under the big waterfall, which is the main attraction of the Plitvice, I could walk very closer to the big waterfall, almost under it, which is not possible for summer! Looking up the big waterfall was amazing.

  By the way, the Plitvice has 2 entrances. However, during the winter, I would recommend to use the main entrance. Because, I was told at the second entrance that the passages had not been cleaned and I wouldn't be able to go further. Also, boats to transfer people to the upper lakes were not on service, because the lake is frozen. So, technically, you can only walk around the big waterfall and around in winter. Because of these reasons, the entrance ticket to the Plitvice was discounted to half price (40Kn)!Hmmm, maybe you still think it's expensive, considering that passages are not cleaned, though... Also, the ticket office is opened until 15:00 in winter. So, if you get there after the opening hour, you can entre free. But, be careful, the Plitvice in winter gets dark very quickly!

地図がなんか変?!　Something is wrong with directions...

 今回もプリトヴィッツェに行く途中にRastoke村に寄ってみた。前回、夏に来たときは滝の流れる村を上から見て、通り過ぎただけだったけど、今回はちょっと時間をかけてゆっくり村を周ってみました。

　Rastoke村、なんといっても村の中を豪快に流れる滝が見ものなんですが、冬でも凍らずに勢いよく滝が流れてました。この時期になると観光客もちらほら、という感じなのでものし～んと静まり返った中、滝の音と雪を踏みしめる音だけが聞こえてきます。　

　Rastoke村に入るのに何やら入場料なるものが必要、と看板に書いてあったのですが、冬のせいか誰もいなかったのでそのまま入場・・・。そしてその入口近くになんだか変な看板を発見?!　よ～く見ると、ザグレブの位置が、妙なところに書いてあるんです(^ ^;)　ザグレブがロンドンとシカゴの間のはずはないですね。Rastoke村から見たら、ザグレブってモスクワに行く途中なんですけどね・・・。たぶん、距離さえあってればいいだろう、なんていう考えだったんでしょうかね。あんまり細かいことを気にしないクロアチア人の性格がよく表れているというか。オーストラリアでもここまで適当じゃなかった。でもクロアチア人のこういう適当なところ、案外好きだったりします。笑いを誘ってくれるというか・・・。

　Rastoke村は、湖の上に、滝の流れを邪魔しないように家々が建っているという感じ。なので、家の床の下を勢いよく水が流れていたりします。村に入ってすぐのところにカフェもあるので、滝の音に耳を澄ませながらコーヒーを楽しむこともできます。途中、村の一角で水車の力で石臼を回して小麦粉を引いているおばあちゃんがいました。 言えば、小麦粉やトウモロコシの粉など、数クーナで売ってくれるみたい。

　夏の青々したRastoke村も、ものすごく爽やかできれいだったけど、冬のRastoke村もまた別の魅力があって楽しめました。

I stopped at Rastoke village on the way to the Plitvice this time, too. When I stopped here last time, I only have 5 minutes or so to just look over the village from the hill. But, this time, I spent enough time to explore this lovely village.

  Attraction of Rastoke village is its breathtaking nature. It looks like that the village was established upon the small lake and waterfalls. Even in winter, the waterfalls were not frozen and water were dynamically flowing. I also saw that the water slooshing under the houses. Listening to this nature sound, the flow of water and the waterfalls, in this peaceful atmosphere was very very relaxing. I didn't go, but there is a small cafe at the very entrance of the village. I think it would be really good to have a time to sit there and enjoy the beautiful landscape while having coffee :)

　When I visited the village, there were only a few visitors. So, it was very peacefully quiet. Only the sound of the waterfalls and our steps crunching snow echoed in this silent village.

  There is "another" entrance of the village across a big bridge behind the village. The board says that we have to pay to entre the village, but there is no one there. So, we just entered the village. At the entrance, we found a weirdly directed map (the first photo). Did you find out what was wrong with that map? Well, Zagreb is located in a weird position. Zagreb can't be located between London and Chicago... From Rastoke village, Zagreb is more like on the way to Moscow. Hmmm, maybe they don't care about the directions but just wanted to show how distanced to each city. I kinda like this characteristics of Croats not caring much about details. They sometimes give us some good laugh (like the map above!) :P

ザグレブ、トラコシュチャン、プリトヴィッツェ Zagreb, Trakošćan and Plitvice

クロアチアへは名古屋からルフトハンザでフランクフルトまで飛び、そこでクロアチア航空に乗り換えてザグレブ、スプリット、ドゥブロブニクへ行くことができます。今年からかな？フィン・エアーもヘルシンキからザグレブ行が開航するらしいです。

最初のクロアチア旅行はザグレブ2日間→トラコシュチャン城（日帰り）→プリトヴィッツェ→トロギール→スプリット→ストン→ドゥブロブニク→ザグレブという感じに周りました。クロアチア国内での移動手段は車です。クロアチアにはヨーロッパ各国から観光客が押し寄せてくるので、スプリット、ドゥブロブニクと言った有名観光地では駐車スペースを探すのが大変です。

 まずクロアチアの空港に降り立ってあまりの小ささにびっくり。一応首都の空港（旧ユーゴ時代は旧ユーゴのメイン空港だったらしい）なんだけれど、日本の地方空港よりも小さいんじゃぁ、と思うくらい小さいです。クロアチアの人口が愛知県全体の人口よりもちょっと多いくらいなので、仕方ないのかな。余談ですが、観光ピーク時にはこの小さな空港でもものすご～く長い列がチェックインカウンターの前にできるので、かなり余裕を持って空港に到着した方がいいです。

ザグレブはやっぱり東ヨーロッパの地方都市なので、小さいです。1日あれば中心部全部回れると思います。私はザグレブで聖マルコ教会、大聖堂などを観光しました。聖マルコ教会はタイル屋根が美しい教会なんですが、中には入れなかったです。地元の人の話では、この教会の扉が開いているのを見たことがないとか・・・。

Trakošćan Castle

3日目にザグレブから北に70kmのところにあるトラコシュチャン城（http://www.trakoscan.hr/index.asp）に行きました。小高い丘の上に湖を眺めるようにかわいらしいお城が建っています。湖の周りをぐるっと散策できるんですが、お城を眺めながらの散策はとても気持ちがよかったです。お城自体はそんなに大きくはないですが、とてもよく整備されていて素朴なお城です。

4日目にザグレブからプリトヴィッツェを経由してトロギールに向かいました。プリトヴィッツェに向かう途中、小さな町を通りすぎた時に、戦争の跡を見ました。家の壁のいたるところに銃弾の跡が残っていたり、大砲が放置されていたり・・・ここで戦争が確かに行われていたんだと認識した瞬間でした。プリトヴィッツェの近く、Slunjという小さな町の中のRastokeで滝が流れる緑豊かな公園を見つけました。時間がなかったので、上から眺めるだけでしたが、滝の音に癒されました。


プリトヴィッツェは世界遺産にも登録されている国立公園です。不思議なくらい青い湖がとても神秘的。夏だったので、たくさんの観光客がいたけれど、湖の周りをゆっくり散策したり滝の近くで水しぶきを浴びたり、ものすごくリフレッシュできました。ここの滝の不思議な言い伝えがあって、この滝の元で結婚したカップルは離婚しないんだとか・・・クロアチアのパワースポットなのかな?!　冬の雪景色のプリトヴィッツェも息をのむほど美しいらしいです。季節ごとに違う表情を見せるプリトヴィッツェ、またじっくり散策したい場所です。

そしてもう１つうれしい話。プリトヴィッツェには毎年たくさんの観光客が訪れるため、観光客が残していくゴミが問題になっています。そんな中、プリトヴィッツェ観光協会は、日本人観光客が一番と称賛していました。理由はゴミを残さず、自然環境に配慮した観光をしてくれるからだそうです。クロアチア全体で言えるのですが、日本人観光客の評判はものすごくいいです。いままでクロアチアを訪れた人が築き上げた信頼・評判。これを崩さないように責任ある行動をしないと・・・。




So, the first trip to Croatia! I flew with Lufthansa from Nagoya to Zagreb via Frankfurt. I travelled Croatia by car in the following order: Zagreb for 2 days, Trakoscan Castle (Trakošćan Castle), Plitvice, Trogir, Split, Ston, Dubrovnik and returning to Zagreb. In summer, there are so many tourists travelling down to Croatia from all over the Europe by car, so it is very hard to find a parking spot especially in popular destinations such as Split and Dubrovnik.

 Zagreb is quite a small city. You can walk around the city in one day but Zagreb has so many good restaurants and cafes you can't miss. I will write more about restaurants and cafes in Zagreb later.

Plitvice

 The Trakošćan Castle is located about 70km north of Zagreb. You can find more about the castle here: （http://www.trakoscan.hr/index.asp）. The castle stands on a top of a small hill so as to look down a lake. The castle is kept in a good condition and shows the history of the castle and a bit of noble people's life lived there. Even in the middle of summer, there were not so many visitors there, so I enjoyed walking around this small but charming castle. Also, it was very refreshing to walk around the lake.

 On the 4th day, I left Zagreb to Trogir. On the way to Trogir, I stopped at Rastoke and Plitvice. Rastoke is located in Slunj before reaching Plitvice. It is very small village but worth to stop and enjoy the beauty of nature. I didn't have enough time to explore the village and its beautiful park, but I enjoyed sound of the waterfalls and fresh air in a very quiet atmosphere.


 After spending a short period of time in Rastoke, I got to Plitvice Lakes National Park just before lunch. There were a lot of people in Plitvice, but I still could find space and a way to enjoy this breathtakingly beautiful nature. The lakes has a very unique, mysterious bright blue colour, and its water is so clear that you can see the bottom of the lakes. There are several hiking courses in Plitvice and you will easily find a favorable course to enjoy this fantastic and breathtaking nature and lakes in your limited time.
