城壁から見下ろすドブロブニク Dubrovnik From City Walls

ドゥブロブニク観光の一番のアトラクションと言ってもいい、城壁めぐり。朝にするか、夕方にするか迷って、結局夕方の7：00から1時間半かけて約２kmある城壁の上を歩くことに。ゆっくりドゥブロブニクの景色を楽しみたいなら最低でも1時間半はほしいところ。


The highlight of Dubrovnik is visit of the City Walls! We started the tour on the City Walls from 19:00, and walk around the 2km long City Walls in 1.5 hours. If you want to enjoy this marvelous view of Dubrovnik, better to take at least 1.5 hours.






時間のない人は聖ルカ要塞から入って、山側から旧市街を眺めるのがお勧め。山側の城壁からは真っ青な空と海にオレンジの屋根が眩しいドブロブニクの街が目の前に広がっています。まるで「魔女の宅急便」の世界に迷い込んだよう。

We started from St. Lucas Fortress. There were less people at this entrance, so it's much easier to get to the wall. From the wall, this picturesque view of Dubrovnik full of lovely orange roofs spreads out before you :)

城壁を歩いていると、美声で「カントリーロード」を歌うイケメンなクロアチア人のウェイターさんに遭遇。一応（？）客引きをしていたっぽいけど、そんなのもお構いなしにおしゃべりを始める。「みんな急ぎ足で景色も楽しまずに遠い過ぎていちゃって、クレージーだ、もっとゆっくり人生楽しまなきゃ！」

I encountered with a handsome Croatian guy singing "Country Road" with nice voice in front of his cafe on the wall. The song just matched with the atmosphere, view and everything! We had a bit of chat. He said "Don't be crazy to just rush through this beautiful view of Dubrovnik. Relax and take time, enjoy your life!" He was very friendly and interesting guy.

城壁の上から見ると、オレンジの屋根の家がひしめき合っているのが見える。小さな裏地では洗濯物が干してあったり、ブドウが家のテラスで実っていたり、確かにこの世界遺産の街に人が日常生活を営んでいるのが垣間見える。

Those orange roofs stand side by side and make small and narrow streets between them. I saw many houses hanging out washing as to prove that people still live in this old city. Actually, there are schools inside the City Walls, too!




ドゥブロブニクのメインストリート、プラツァ通り。この通り沿いにたくさんのお土産屋さん、レストラン、カフェが立ち並んでいて人でにぎわってます。


ここを中心にアドリア海側、スルジ山側に坂になっているんだけれど、坂を上るのが意外に大変（特に山側）！毎回階段を上り下りして、ここで生活するのも大変だな～と実感。


This is the main street of Dubrovnik, Placa. There are many souvenir shops, restaurants and cafes along this street, so always full of people.

The Old City of Dubrovnik slopes up towards the Adriatic Sea and Mount Srđ. Actually, it rather steep, especially towards the mountain and walking up and down the steps is very exhausting! It must be very hard to live here unless I'm a really good walker!


それにしても暑い！夜の7時でもこの明るさに、この強い日差し。城壁の上には太陽を遮るものが何もないので、歩くのもしんどい・・・。でも、海からの冷たい風が心地いい。

守衛所の窓で切り取ったドゥブロブニクの街も、ものすごい絵になる！

Anyway, it was sooooooo hot! I could feel that my skin is burned. Oh, by the way, many Croatian use expression "I'm so cocked", but it does not mean they got drunk. It means it's very hot as if he/she is cocked by fire :)

There is very little shade on the walls. So, you should bring enough water. Even if you forgot water, don't worry! There are some cafes and small shops on the walls selling drink and ice cream :) When we were on the wall at the evening, the sun was still high and strong, but cool sea breeze from the Adriatic Sea blew us nicely.


城壁からアドリア海の夕日が見れたらよかったのに・・・。残念ながら城壁はサンセットよりも早くに閉まってしまうのです。でも城壁のナイト・ツアーもドゥブロブニクの観光協会で検討中だとか。ぜひ実現してほしいな。

城壁を歩いていたら、何やら海賊船？昔の商船みたいな船が街に近づいてきた！めちゃくちゃ、雰囲気がある。

I really wish I could watch the sunset from the Walls :S Unfortunately, the walls are closed well before the sunset. But, the local boy told us that the Dubrovnik Tourist Board is considering about "night tour" on the City Walls. I hope they will adopt that idea.

Oh, look! An old carrack is approaching Dubrovnik!



後で調べたら、KARAKAという船で、サンセットのドゥブロブニクを遠目にディナー・クルーズができるらしい。食事付（ライブミュージックも！）は一人350Kn（約5,000円）、45分のクルーズは一人100Kn（約1500円）だそう。ドブロブニクのサンセットを見ながらディナーなんて、ロマンチック！今度機会があったら、絶対に乗ってみたい。

I found out later that the carrack is called "KARAKA" and offers sunset & dinner cruise, and a short (45 mins) cruise. The sunset & dinner cruise (350Kn=about 50 Euros per person) includes 2.5 hours cruise, Dalmatian buffet, drink, and Dalmatian music. It sounds so romantic to have dinner on this old-style carrack while enjoying the view of Dubrovnik lit by the sunset. I would definitely love to try this sunset dinner cruise next time :)




城壁めぐりを終えて出口に向かっていると、城壁の係り員のおじちゃん2人に

「もうすぐ閉めるから、早く、早く」

とせかされてしまった。でも、一人のおっちゃんは何十年も柔道をやっていて、その縁で日本語もちょっとしゃべれると言って、流ちょうな日本語を披露してくれた。もう一人のおっちゃんも、日本人とクロアチア人のカップルは珍しいらしく、いろいろ話しかけてくれた。今回の城壁めぐりは、地元の人と心の温かさに触れた、とっても貴重な体験ができた。城壁から降りても、うれしくてしばらくずっと笑顔でした♪





At the exit (same as the starting point), we had a bit of chat with local Croatian men working at the City Walls. For them, we are a kind of unique married couple - Croatian man and Japanese woman :) One of them told us that he has been practicing Judo for many years and can speak some Japanese! So yeah, we had very nice chats with local people on the walls that day. I can say that people in Dubrovnik are very very friendly and very kind. I was very happy to have chance to talk to them :)

ロヴリイェナッツ要塞 Fort Lovrijenac

ロヴリイェナッツ要塞はドゥブロブニクの旧市街の西側にぽつんと位置しています。行き道が分かりにくいので、地元の人に聞いてなんとかたどり着く。



The Fort Lovrijenac is located west of the cold city of Dubrovnik. The pathway to the fort is a bit hard to find. We asked a local people the pathway to the fort and managed to get there.





日差しが強いので、この階段を上るだけでもものすごく体力を消耗。ここまで来る観光客は少ないのか、私たちがロヴリイェナッツに行ったときは私たちの他に2組のカップルがいたくらい。

It was very hard to walk on steps up to Lovrijenac under this extremely strong sun! The steps are not that steep, and it won't be any problem to climb up steps if the sun did't hit us so strongly.

It seemed like not so many people come up to Lovrijenac. When we visited Lovrijenac, only a few couples except for us were there.





写真ではちょっと見にくいですが、ロヴリイェナッツ要塞の入り口には「NON BENE PRO TOTO LIBERTAS VENDITUR AURO（世界中のお金を持ってしても自由は売らず）」というドブロブニクのモットーが刻み込まれています。

The motto of Dubrovnik "NON BENE PRO TOTO LIBERTAS VENDITUR AURO" meaning "Liverty is not to be sold for all the gold (of the world)" is inscribed at the entrance of Lovrijenac.




ロヴリイェナッツ内部はこれと言った展示も何もないのですが、入口入ってすぐのホールが華やかさはないんだけれど、中世の面影たっぷりでなかなかステキ。ここもGame of Thronesの撮影現場に使われたらしい。この雰囲気はファンタジードラマにぴったり。どの場面で使われたのかな～なんて想像しながらドゥブロブニクを歩くのも楽しい。

There are nothing special to see inside the Lovrijenac, but the main hall near the entrance was very fascinating for me. The hall is very simple, but retains atmosphere of medieval time. The structure of the hall and the fort is very interesting.

The man at the ticket desk told us that Lovrijenac was also used for filming "Game of Thrones". It was fun to imagine which parts of Dubrovnik were filmed for Game of Thrones :)



ヴリイェナッツは要塞としてとても重要な役割を果たした場所。まるで今でもドゥブロブニクを外敵から守るかのように、アドリア海にもスルジ山にも標的を定めて大砲が飾ってあります。

There are cannons pointing at the Adriatic Sea and mount Srđ as if the fort still protects the old city of Dubrovnik.












ちなみに、要塞の壁の厚さは内陸側が6m、アドリア海側が4m、でも旧市街側はわずか1m。これは要塞に駐在する指揮官がドゥブロブニクの政権を転覆・掌握できないようにとの工夫だそう。もしそんなことが起こったとしても、60cmの壁はすぐに大砲で破られ、籠城している指揮官は降伏せざるを負えないように計算されてロヴリイェナッツは建てられたんですね。


The walls of the fort are made to be 6m on the landward side, 4m towards the Adriatic Sea, and only 1m towards the old city of Dubrovnik so that the commander of the fort could not overthrow the government. So, even if the commander attempted to capture the city, the thin wall of Lovrijenac is very easy to break by cannon, which would make the commander surrender very quickly.


ロヴリイェナッツから見たドゥブロブニク。こう見るとドゥブロブニクの旧市街は海側とスルジ山側に向かって坂になっているのが分かるかも。実際、かなり坂道が多くて歩くのは大変。

The view of Dubrovnik from Lovrijenac fort. As you can see from the photo, the old city of Dubrovnik is slope towards the sea and the mountain. In fact, the old city has lots of slopping streets, which are steeper than you probably imagine, especially towards the mount Srđ.



ここから夕日に照らされるドゥブロブニクが見れたらよかったのに・・・。サンセット前にロヴリイェナッツが閉まってしまうので、残念・・・。

そうそう、ロヴリイェナッツのテラスには日をよける屋根なんかもなく、アドリア海のものすごい強い日差しにさらされることになるので、要注意です！行くときはお水を持って、日焼け対策もしっかりしてくださいね。夏の間はできれば朝一番か、夕方に行くのがお勧め。とはいっても、朝一番の8時でもすでに太陽は高い位置で、干からびそうでしたが・・・

I wish I could see the Dubrovnik at sunset from Lovrijenac. But, unfortunately, the fort is closed before the sunset:(

By the way, there is no roof or anything to make shade at terrace of Lovrijenac, so be prepared well and bring water with you, because you will be exposed to the very very strong sun. If you visit Lovrijenac during summer, better to go there in the morning or evening. Although the sun was already high above us when we were there at 8am (the opening time of the fort)...

ドブロブニク・カード Dubrovnik Card

 今回は長期滞在だったので、ドブロブニク・カード（1週間有効）を使ってみることにしました。カードは1日、3日、7日有効の3種類があります。

カードを購入するとドゥブロブニクのガイドブック（英語版のみ）がもらえるのですが、これがものすごく優秀！ドゥブロブニクの歴史から、観光施設の説明、文化行事、お店の紹介、バスのマップなんかもついていてドゥブロブニクについて学ぶにはぴったり。

どのカードも使える回数はカードによって異なるものの、公共交通機関のチケットも付いてきます。あと、このカードを持っていると、同伴の12歳以下の子供さんは入場料が無料になります。その他にはレストランやお店でのディスカウントが受けられます。

値段は1日有効カードが130Kn、3日間有効カードが180Kn、7日間有効カードが220Knです。インターネットで申し込むと10％のディスカウントがあるみたいです（ウェブサイトはこちら）。

で、このカード、お得かといったら、ちょっと微妙かも。カードで入場できる施設はかなり限られていて8つの観光スポットと城壁だけです。

・アートギャラリー (Umjetnička Galerija Dubrovnik)
・城壁 (Gradske Zidine)　と　ロヴリイェナッツ (Tvrđava Lovrijenac)
・ドルチッチ、マスレ、プリティカ・ギャラリー (Galerija Dulčić, Masle, Pulitika)
・マリン・ドルヂッチの家 (Dom Marina Držića)
・海洋博物館　(Pomorski Muzej)
・自然史博物館　(Prirodoslovni Muzej)
・総督邸　(Knežev Dvor)
・民俗学博物館 (Etnografski Muzej Rope)

しかもそれぞれ1回しか入場できないようになっています。下の写真のように、入場した施設にはボールペンで白い〇が塗りつぶされています・・・。パリ・ミュージアム・パスのように何回も入場可能ならいいのに・・・。あと欲を言えば、スルジ山までのケーブルカーも含めてほしい。

例えば、城壁の入場料は2012年夏時点で70Knで、城壁の他に、ロヴリイェナッツ要塞、総督邸への入場料も含まれています。なので、見たいところが限られている場合、ドブロブニク・カードはガイドブックをもらえる他にあまり利点はないかも。入場受付にいた地元の男の子も、ドブロブニク・カードで入場できる施設が少なすぎるというクレームを観光客から受ける、と言っていました(^ ^;) 今後、入場できる施設が増えることを期待・・・。

This time, we purchased the Dubrovnik Card (weekly card). There are 3 types of Dubrovnik Card: daily card, 3-day card and weekly card.

When you purchase a Dubrovnik Card, you will get free guidebook (only in English) of Dubrovnik. And actually, this guidebook is awesome! The guidebook covers the history of Dubrovnik, all the sightseeing spots, attractions and its story behind, cultural events, shops, restaurants and the bus map.

Each Dubrovnik Card includes bus tickets, too. Also, a children under 12 years old accompanied by a card holder can entre the listed facilities for free. Plus, you will get some discounts from shops and restaurants by showing the card.

The prices for the Dubrovnik cards are: 130 Kn for daily card, 180 Kn for 3-day card, and 220 Kn for weekly card. Also, if you order the Dubrovnik Card online from this website, you will get 10% discount.

The facilities you can enter with the Dubrovnik Card are follows:

・Art Gallery Dubrovnik (Umjetnička Galerija Dubrovnik)
・City Walls (Gradske Zidine) and Fort Lovrijenac (Tvrđava Lovrijenac)
・Dulčić-Masle-Pulitika Gallery (Galerija Dulčić, Masle, Pulitika)
・Marin Držić House (Dom Marina Držića)
・Maritime Museum (Pomorski Muzej)
・Natural History Museum (Prirodoslovni Muzej)
・Rector's Palace (Knežev Dvor)
・Rupe Ethnographic Museum (Etnografski Muzej Rope)

Well, but I'm not sure if this card saves much money... The facilities and sightseeing spots you can entre with this card is pretty limited. Also, you can enter each facilities and sightseeing spot only once! As you can see on the photo above, once you entre the facilities, the list on the back of the card is marked so that you can't go in again. It would be better if this card includes the cable car to Mount Srđ, and if this card allows us to entre the listed facilities as many times as we want like Paris Museum Pass :(

For example, an entrance tickets of the City Walls costs 70Kn, but this also includes free entrance to the Rector's Palace and the Fort Lovrijenac. So, if you don't plan to see all of the facilities you can entre with this card, it may not that useful or save much money, except for you get the free great guidebook of Dubrovnik. Even a young local boy at the entrance of Sponza Palace told us that they received complains about the Dubrovnik Card because it doesn't cover all the major attractions. Well, I wish they will include more facilities and sightseeing spots to make this card more valuable for the future.

アドリア海の真珠ドブロブニク Dubrovnik, Pearl of the Adriatic

さてさて、再びやってきました、ドゥブロブニク！今回はたっぷり5泊することに・・・。ところで、このDubrovnik, 日本のガイドブックでは「ドブロブニク」と紹介されているものがほとんどですが、現地ではDubrovnikをそのまま読んだ、「ドゥヴロブニク」と発音します。

ザグレブからドゥブロブニクまで高速道路ノンストップで約8時間！スプリットからは約3.5時間の運転です。飛行機も飛んでいるけれど、ドゥブロブニクに着くまでの海岸景色がすばらしいので必見です。

長いドライブも今回の旅仲間の元上司ご家族とつきない話をしながらだったので、アッという間でした。

Dubrovnik, here we come again!!! :)))

We drove all the way to Dubrovnik from Split enjoying the breathtaking view of the Adriatic Sea. The Croatian Airline operates domestic flights from Zagreb to Dubrovnik, but it was too good to miss the beautiful view spreading in front of us.

Usually, it takes about 8 hours from Zagreb (3.5 hours from Split) to Dubrovnik by car on the highway.

Mount Srđ

ドゥブロブニク観光を始める前にまず、絶景ポイントのスルジ山に登って上から「アドリア海の真珠」を眺めることに・・・。スルジ山山頂までケーブルカー（往復87Kn）であっという間についちゃいます。ケーブルカーが上に上がっていくにつれて、ドゥブロブニクの全体が目の前に広がってきて、期待で胸がドキドキ・・・。スルジ山の頂上からは上の写真のような真っ青な海に浮かぶドゥブロブニクが見えます。

We started the day in Dubrovnik from Srđ mountain from its top, you will see the amazing view of the entire old city of Dubrovnik. To get to the top of the mountain, we used the cable car (87Kn return tickets). We all excited as the cable car slowly moving up to the top. The photos above were taken from mount Srđ. I think this it the best viewpoint of Dubrovnik. The contrast between the blue Adriatic Sea and orange roofs was very beautiful.

スルジ山の頂上には大きな十字架があります。1991年から1995年の独立戦争の際にスルジ山の頂上にあった要塞と共に破壊されましたが、十字架は独立戦争で亡くなった人々の記念碑として復元されました。

On the top of Srđ mountain, a big cross was standing very quietly. This cross was destroyed during the Homeland War (1991 - 1995), but was restored as a memorial for those who died and were victims of the war.

スルジ山の海側と内陸側ではまた違った景色が広がっています。左の写真は早朝のスルジ山。やぎさんたちがアドリア海の絶景を見ながら優雅に朝ごはん中。

The left photo was taken early in the morning on the top of mount Srđ. We found many goats having breakfast looking down the still sleeping city of Dubrovnik :)

Mount Srđ

ドゥブロブニクはケーブルカーで上がった場所以外にも絶景ポイントが何か所かあります。時間があればタクシーでスルジ山まで行ってみることをお勧めします！私たちは早朝のドゥブロブニクを誰もいないスルジ山から眺めてみました。日中の喧騒とは打って変わって、とっても静か。何にも考えずに朝日に照らされるドゥブロブニクを眺める。ものすごい贅沢な時間。

There are several great sightseeing points along the road to mount Srđ in addition to the cable car station. So, if you have time, hire a taxi to Srđ.

We drove to the top of the mountain in the early morning to take photos of Dubrovnik. The early morning of Dubrovnik is completely different from hustle and bustle of  the day. It was very quiet. There were only us on Srđ. It was very indulging moment to have all this quiet morning just for us while witnessing the morning sun gradually lit the old city.

上の写真は早朝のドブロブニク。風がものすごく強い日で、海がいつも以上に波打っていました。海の色が昼間と違って、爽やかなライトブルー。


The photo above was taken in the early morning. It was very very windy morning and you can see that wind blew the sea and the Adriatic Sea was very wavy. The colour of the sea looked a bit different from the daytime. It was more refreshing light blue colour.

This photo was taken just before the sunset. Compared to the very strong sun during the day, the city was wrapped by the warm and calm colour of the Sky.




夕焼けに染まるドゥブロブニク。とてもロマンチック！スルジ山から旧市街を眺めている人たちもこの絶景を静かに見入っていたり、写真に収めたりしています。夏は日が長いので、サンセットは8時半から9時ごろ。

The sunset at Dubrovnik. It was very romantic :) It seemed like everyone on mount Srđ was captivated by this beautiful sunset and just quietly gazed at the superb view of Dubrovnik at sunset.

Usually, the sunset during summer is around 8:30pm to 9:00pm.

サンセット直後のドゥブロブニク。街には明かりが灯って、暗闇のなかに浮かび上がるその姿は本当に「宝石」のよう・・・。街の方からスルジ山の頂上まで音楽も聞こえてきて、とてもにぎやかな雰囲気。

This was taken just after the sunset. All the lights were lit in the city, which made Dubrovnik shine like a gem stone in the darkness. Even from the top of mount Srđ, we heard some live music. It was very lively town. 

15～16世紀に最盛期を迎えたドゥブロブニク。今でもその当時の姿を留めていて、まるでファンタジーの世界に迷い込んだような錯覚を覚えます。この街が欧米で人気の大人向けファンタジー小説に基づいたドラマ、Game of ThronesのKing's landingの舞台に選ばれたもの納得。なんというか、ヨーロッパなんだけれどとてもエキゾチック。ドラマを見てからドゥブロブニクに行ったので、「あ、この辺りがドラマで使われていたかも」なんて思いながら旧市街を歩くのも楽しかったです。シーズン3でもドゥブロブニクで撮影されるらしいので、今年の秋～冬に向かってドゥブロブニクを訪れる人は撮影現場に遭遇できるかも?!

Dubrovnik has very unique charms - it retains the medieval atmosphere, but unlike many other European medieval and old cities, Dubrovnik is also very exotic. When I walked in the old city of Dubrovnik, I felt as if I wandered into a fantasy world. Actually, some scenes  of Game of Thrones, TV series base on a popular fantasy novel for adults, were filmed in Dubrovnik, which stands for the King's Landing. In fact, the old city of Dubrovnik fits very well for it. I had watched the season 2 of Game of Thrones before I visited Dubrovnik, so it was very fun to image which parts of the old city was used in the drama :))) I've heard that some scenes of season 3 will be also filmed in Dubrovnik. If you visit Dubrovnik around autumn to winter this year, you may encounter filming of the drama :)

ローマ皇帝の街スプリット Split, The Old Roman City

スプリットはディオクレティアヌス宮殿を中心とした、ローマ帝国時代の面影が色濃く残る世界遺産の街です。


スプリット近郊のサローナという小さな町に生まれ育ち、後にローマ皇帝となったディオクレティアヌス帝が退位後に隠居生活を送った宮殿に、人々が住みついて宮殿から外へ広がってできたのがスプリット。もともと軍人として成功したディオクレティアヌス帝の宮殿なので、豪華絢爛というよりも要塞、軍事キャンプとしての機能も持ち合わせた作りになっています。


Split is the old Roman city, which is registered as the World Heritage.

The origin of the city goes back to 3rd century when the Roman Emperor Diocletianus, who is said to be born near Salona, built the palace and spent his rest of his life there after he had abdicated. The palace was designed to function also as a fortress and a military camp.



ちなみに、クロアチア語で「クロアチア」は「フルヴァツカ　Hrvatska」と言いますが、その語源となっているクロアチア民族を示す「フルヴァット Hrvat」はもともと「軍事エリート Military Elite」の意味だとか・・・。クロアチア人は戦いに優れた民族としてヨーロッパで名を馳せたとか。

そんなミリタリー・エリートの末裔がローマ兵士に扮してディオクレティアヌス宮殿のペリスティルでお出迎えしてくれました。

In Croatian language, Croatia is "Hrvatska". The word is came from the name of tribe "Hrvat". Some says that it means "military elite" and in facet, Croatian were great soldiers.

Nowadays, the offspring of the "military elites" in the uniform of Roman soldier welcome us at the Peristile in the Diocletian's Palace :)

城壁に囲まれたディオクレティアヌス宮殿の北側の入口にはニン司教グレゴリーの大きな像が立っています。この像の左足の親指をこすると幸運が訪れるらしく、親指だけ金色にぴかぴかに光ってました。もちろん、親指をしっかりこすって願掛けしました(^ ^;)

グレゴリーは教会や政治などでラテン語がつかわれていた時代に、クロアチア独自の言語、古スラブ語とグラゴール文字の普及を目指した人物で、クロアチア文化に貢献した人です。

A huge statue of Gregory of Nin is standing near the North entrance of the Diocletian's Palace. It is believed that rubbing his toe brings good luck. So, of course, I did rub his toe to wish my good luck:)

So, who he is? He was the bishop in Nin and promoted the use of the old Slavic language and the Glagolitic alphabet when the Latin was used as the official language at church and politics in Croatia.

The view of Split from the sea side. I saw some washing hanged from small windows of the wall. So, yes, people still live in the palace. It's very interesting mixture.

The palm trees on the promenade added very exotic taste to the city. 

6月末だと言うのに気温はすでに30℃超え。白い壁と路面に照り返す太陽がものすご～く眩しい。紫外線も強いので、日焼け対策は必須です。

Although it was still the end of June, the temperature was already over 30 degrees and it was very very hot. Also, the sun was very strong.

あまりに暑いので、宮殿の地下へ避難。地下はひんやり涼しい。地下はお土産屋さんで埋め尽くされた通りと、見学スペースとに分かれています。見学スペースへの入場券はディオクレティアヌス宮殿の絵葉書！お土産にもなるし、ナイス・アイディア！宮殿の地下には猫たちの遊び場になってました。

It was so hot outside, so we rushed into the basement of the palace. The basement halls are also open to public, so we decided to have a look. At the entrance, they will give you a postcard of the original Diocletian's Palace as a ticket. I think it is very good idea. The basement halls are also playgrounds for cats :)

スプリットに限らず、ダルマチア地方の庭にはブーゲンビリアが咲き誇っていました。この真っ青な空にハッピーなピンクがものすごい映えていました。

Everywhere in Dalmatia, the bougainvillea was in full bloom. The contrast between this strong pink and the blue sky was very very beautiful.





写真を撮り忘れましたが、お昼を「地球の歩き方」にも載っているレストランFifeでいただきました。ここはスプリット出身の友達もお勧めのお店。新鮮な魚料理とダルマチア地方のビーフシチューPašticadaがお勧め。

このお店のオーナー、若いときに船関係の仕事に就いていて日本の神戸に何度か行ったことがあると話してくれました。息子さんも同じように船関係の仕事で日本に行ったことがあると言っていました。こんなところで思わぬつながりを発見して、ちょっとうれしかったです。

I forgot taking photos, but I went to the restaurant called "Fife" for lunch. The restaurant was recommended by local people. They serve various types of fishes and very tasty Dalmatian stewed beef dish called Pašticada.

The owner of the restaurant was very friendly. He told us that he was engaged in something relating to ship when he was young and had been to Kobe, Japan a couple of times. It was a very nice to find such a connection although Japan and Croatia are far far away from each other :)

ドブロブニク再び!!! Dubrovnik Again!!!

6月末に、日本で働いていた時にお世話になった上司がご家族でクロアチアまで遊びに来て下さったのを機に、私たちもちょっと早い夏休みを取って一緒にクロアチアを周りました。

スケジュールは、ザグレブ→プリトヴィッツェ→スプリット→ドゥブロブニク、というクロアチア周遊の王道。反対に回る人もいますが、個人的にはドゥブロブニクがハイライトになるので、ここを最後に持って来た方が楽しめると思います。

午前中に1時間半ほどザグレブの街を散策。世界一短いと言うケーブルカーにもご案内したのですが、運休中・・・。残念(>_<)　今一どいういったタイミングで運休になるのかよく分からないこのケーブルカー・・・。アッパータウンからザグレブの街と大聖堂を眺め、聖マルコ教会の前を通り過ぎてドラッツ市場に向かう、というコース。

その後一同小さ～な我が家の車に乗り込んで、プリトヴィッツェに向かいました。その途中、もちろんラストケ村にも立ち寄って、滝の音に癒されつつ大自然の中軽いランチで腹ごしらえ。

プリトヴィッツェに関しては以前書いたので割愛。でも、いつ来てもプリトヴィッツェのあの引き込まれるようなエメラルドグリーンに目を奪われます。今回はメインエントランスから入って大滝、エントランス２に移動してステーション4まで歩きました。ちなみに、5月からずっと大滝の近くにある小滝への道は通行止めになっています。

時間がない人はメインエントランスからまず大滝をめざし、エントランス２から遊覧船でP2まで行き、Gradinsko湖をぐるっと回ってエントランス2まで戻る、というコースがいいと思います。あるいはメインエントランスから大滝→P3で遊覧船→P2からGradinsko湖を周遊→P2から遊覧船でP1に戻るというのがお勧め。これで一通りのプリトヴィッツェの見どころは押さえられます。


プリトヴィッツェでマイナスイオンをたっぷり浴びた後はスプリットに向かいました。移動時間はザグレブ→プリトヴィッツェが約2時間、プリトヴィッツェ→スプリットが約3時間です。クロアチア、小さな国に見えて意外に移動距離が長い。

My ex-boss at work when I worked at the company in Japan visited me with his family in the end of this June. So, we also had an early short summer holiday with them travelling through Plitvice and Split to Dubrovnik.

Our schedule was kind of the typical route: Zagreb → Plitvice → Split → Dubrovnik.

On the first day of my ex-boss and his family stay in Croatia, we walked around Zagreb showing the main attractions of the city: Upper Town, St. Mark's Church, The Cathedral and Dolac market. Unfortunately, the "world shortest cable car" did not operate on that day. I'm not sure when they operate it and when they don't...

Then we all squeezed into my husband's small car and drove to Plitvice. Of course, on the way to the Plitvice lakes, we stopped at Rastoke village and had a light lunch while enjoying the refreshing sounds of waterfalls :)

I've been to the Plitvice lakes several times already. But still, I'm always amazed by the beautiful emerald green lakes. By the way, the passage to the small waterfall (Mali Slap) is closed since I had visited there last time in this May. I have no idea why and why it takes so long to re-open the passage though.

After enjoying refreshing walking in the Plitvice National Park for several hours, we continued our trip to Split. It usually takes about 2 hours from Zagreb to Plitvice, and another 3 hours from Plitvice to Split. However, during the high tourism season, the load will be full of cars and might require longer driving hour. For example, my husband's friend recently travelled from Split to Zagreb by car and it took about 9 hours because of a car accident (usually, if you use the highway, it takes about 4.5 hours from Zagreb to Split). So, when you drive the highway, pay attention to the load information. In summer, the load information and news are broadcast also in English, German and Italian languages on radio.

クロアチアに引っ越してもう1年… Already 1 year since I moved to Croatia...

今日8月13日でクロアチアに引っ越してきてちょうど1年。あっっと言う間の1年。
最初の6か月は婚姻届やビザ関係の書類集めに追われて知らず知らずに時間が過ぎて行ったような感じ。後半の半年は（これまた1か月ほど今度はクロアチア国内での住所変更のための申請やIDカード発行手続きに時間を取られたけれど…）クロアチアの生活や文化、習慣に慣れていく期間だったかな。

じゃぁ、次の1年はどのように過ごそうか・・・。とりあえずの目標はクロアチア語で話せるようになることかな。来年の今日はもっとクロアチア語で会話できるようにがんばろう。

ちなみにクロアチアに引っ越してくる前に日本で挙式した私たち。結婚1周年も同じ時期に迎えました。母親からは「これで（主婦としての）初心者マークが取れるね」と言われました。思えば家でろくに家事をしなかった私が1年間料理を作り続けることができたのには自分でもびっくり。きっとオーストラリアでの2年間が大きかったような気がする。自分で家事をするようになって、母親の大変さがやっと分かった。今度家に帰った時はしっかりお手伝いして親孝行できるようにしよう。

Just a year has passed today (13 Aug) since I moved to Croatia. I felt like this year had passed very quickly.

I was so busy with paper works for the marriage and visa for the first 6 months. Then, the second 6 months was time to get used to new life in Croatia, Croatian culture, customs and way of life.

So, how I'm going to spend the second year in Croatia...? So far, my resolution is to learn Croatian language so that I can communicate with people more in Croatian. I hope I won't need my husband's translation when I talk and listen to my Croatian friends by today next year :)

We also had the first anniversary, too. I was amazed by myself that I did all the domestic works and cooking all through the year (well, I know this is something expected to a "wife" though). Even my mum was surprised by my "achievement". I think it's all thank to my husband's help:)
